If you read my last blog post, you would know that I don’t intend to travel this summer, but in the fall I will be taking an Amtrak trip. I haven’t done a rail trip in a while so I’m glad to get back aboard! Riding the rails is fun, scenic and relaxing! Also, Amtrak is offering new routes and totally renovated trains!
Plus, I’m going to share seven ways to save big money with Amtrak.
- Book Early! Prices go up not down on rail fares as travel dates get closer so book as early as possible to score the biggest savings. You can book up to eleven months out!
- Rail Passes. Amtrak offers Multi-Ride Passes, USA Rail Passes and CA Rail Passes.
- Share Fares are another great way to save money. The more people booked under the same reservation equals bigger savings. For example, three people means fifteen percent off and eight people booked under the same reservation means a sixty percent discount!
- Night Owl Fares is a real deal for those willing to travel between 7 pm – 7 am. Fares start as low as $10pp!
- Special discounts are offered to seniors (65+), students (17-24), children (2-12), disabled veterans/active military and more. Discounts are 10-50% off.
- If you apply for an Amtrak Credit Card (no annual fee), you will score reward points, rebates on food and beverages, and bonus points/promotions.
- Join the Rail Passengers Association ($20-60 membership fee) to receive discounted Amtrak fares.
Bonus! Ask friends and family for an Amtrak Gift Card. There is no fee and gift cards never expire.
