world's largest yard sale

World’s Largest Yard Sale

The World’s Longest Yard Sale (also known as 127 Yard Sale) is almost here!

The mother of all yard sales takes place August 3 – 6, 2023. When I first learned about this a few years ago, I was fascinated (and still am). So I like to write about it every year or so.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s the deal: The yard sale begins in Addison, Michigan and extends all the way to Gladsden, Alabama, covering 690 miles through five states–all along U.S. Route 127. We’re talking a total of 127 massive yard sales! There are more than 1,000 vendors in Alabama alone! You have never seen so much junk in your life! Everything you can think of is for sale!

Plus, there’s so much to see and do along the way, such as a tasty rib fest, skydiving, and quirky museums. Lodging options range from camping to bed and breakfast inns. Here are just a few suggestions:

  • Tour the World’s Largest Treehouse. It was built in the 1990s by minister Horace Burgess. It took eleven years to complete. It is one of the most visited attractions in the state (open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.). 245 Beehive Lane, Crossville, TN 38555.
  • Stop at one of the many fruits, vegetables, and specialty stands along the route.
  • Go to a wine tasting. Chestnut Hill Winery is the largest in Tennessee and offers a big gift shop full of all things Tennessee (in case you haven’t done enough shopping at the yardsale). 78 Chestnut Hill Road, Crossville, TN 38555.
  • Visit Little River Canyon National Preserve (Alabama). It offers excellent fly fishing, hiking, camping, whitewater rafting (Class III & IV rapids) and more.
  • Attend a huge Classic and Hot Rods Car Show and Music Jamboree in Jamestown, TN.
