Fun Facts …
The Great Wall of China is the longest structure ever built by humans.
Shanghai is now the largest city in China and the eighth largest in the world. Shanghai is known as the Pearl of the Orient and Paris of the East.
The Forbidden City, the huge palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties, is located at the heart of Beijing. There are more than 800 buildings in Forbidden City, including Imperial Palace, which is one of the most haunted places in the world.
Beijing has more bicycle parking lots than anywhere else in the world. This is due to its large population (15 million).
McDonald’s (fast food) is popular in China. But while in Beijing, you have to try the Peking Duck. Peking duck is a dish that originated in Beijing and has been prepared since the imperial era. The meat is characterized by its thin, crisp skin, with authentic versions of the dish serving mostly the skin and little meat, sliced in front of the diners by the cook. Ducks bred specially for the dish are slaughtered after 65 days and seasoned before being roasted in a closed or hung oven. The meat is eaten with spring onion, cucumber and sweet bean sauce with pancakes rolled around the fillings. Sometimes pickled radish is also inside, and other sauces can be used.
