Terrance, can you comment about the latest deaths on Mt.Everest in the country of Nepal? Some of your fans might be considering a trip that includes an attempt to climb mountains in the world. As I understand there is lower breathable air after a certain height which can have a negative affect on the human body. Apparently several suffered snow blindness, frostbite on hands and feet and a few died from altitude sickness. Enjoy your articles as they give me an unbiased view of traveling and hints on how to have a better time!

It’s been a tough few years for Mt. Everest climbers. There was a bad avalanche and then the massive earthquake in 2015. So far this year there have been four climbing-related deaths, which is not unusual. This is one of the most challenging mountain climbs in the world. Tackling Mt. Everest should only be done by seriously qualified climbers who are in peak shape and have many other major climbs under their belt. One of the most common problems these days is the congestion that sometimes occurs when there are too many climbers in a day and/or group(s) that go so slow as to hold up a long line of climbers. This may be attributed to altitude sickness or may be due to inexperience or both. There is a narrow window to achieve summit AND descent. If you exceed that window then altitude sickness and running out of oxygen become huge concerns. On a separate note, Nepal is one of my favorite places and I highly recommend visiting this remote and rugged and spectacular country whether you’re into climbing or not.
