One hundred and fifty years ago, the biggest battle of the Civil War was fought. Roughly 165,000 Union and Confederate soldiers participated in this epic event, which was a turning point in the war. In honor of the Battle of Gettysburg, there will be a ten-day commemoration from June 28 – July 7, 2013. The commemoration will feature elaborate re-enactments with 15,000 ‘soldiers’ participating, vintage weaponry (including cannons), field hospitals, food rations, and camps.
Ghost enthusiasts may be interested to know that Gettysburg battlefield is one of the most haunted places in America, especially Devil’s Den. Park rangers have been instructed NOT to discuss paranormal activity, so you’ll have to take a ghost tour, such as www.gettysburgtours.net) if you’re interested in hearing more. Other haunted areas include the college and historic district.
FYI: Hershey, PA is less than an hour’s drive away.
