Here are five reasons I love all-inclusive vacations:
- Time Saver. Even though I am a travel expert and know all the tricks and techniques for finding the lowest fares, it is time consuming and labor intensive. It is nice to forego the many hours or days I sometimes spend searching for airfares, accommodations, and attractions.
- Stress Saver. By not having to do a massive amount of research to put together the best deal, I avoid a lot of stress. I don’t have to investigate all the possibilities and prices because everything’s included.
- No hidden fees. With many resorts, tours and cruises, there are lots of costs that are not included. However, you have to get our your magnifying glass to read the fine print to see that port charges, airport taxes, daily resort fees, fuel surcharges, transfers, porterage, WiFi, most meals, beverages, and/or gratuities are excluded from the fare. The wonderful thing about an all-inclusive vacation is that it is transparent. All-inclusive means everything is included. When you do the math, you will typically discover that an all-inclusive vacation is cheaper (and often much cheaper) than other vacations once you add up all the a la carte costs. Often times, all-inclusive includes free alcoholic beverages at dinner and other select times, as well as non-alcoholic beverages (coffee, juice, sodas, and mocktails). For a couple to each consume two drinks per day during a ten-day trip, the cost adds up big time, but not for those on an all-inclusive vacation! Note: All-inclusive does not necessarily cover airfare to reach your tour destination/cruise embarkation/resort. However, it will clearly spell that out in the itinerary so you will know before you book.
- Free fun! All-inclusive vacations include lots of fun activities that you probably wouldn’t try if you had to pay for those costs out of pocket. For example, all-inclusive resorts, cruises, and tours usually offer free water sports (such as jet skiing and scuba diving), shore excursions and sightseeing activities, free exercise classes (such as yoga and water aerobics), free enrichment activities (such as salsa dancing, nature hike, golf simulator, cooking class, and wine tastings).
- Priceless. With an all-inclusive vacation, there are few out-of-pocket expenses, except for a few souvenirs. So once you have paid for your vacation, you are done. You don’t have to worry about coming up with more money. Unexpected expenses are what breaks a budget, such as not expecting to pay $400 in tips or a $300 bar tab or a $50 cab ride. Knowing you have paid in full up front is priceless!

I think the best all-inclusive resort is Sandals, which has 15 spectacular resorts on 7 different islands. My vote for the best all-inclusive vacation operator is Apple Vacations. A great all-inclusive cruise line is MSC Cruises. For more resources, check out my CHEAP TRAVEL SERIES.
