Classic Cruise vs. Adventure Cruise

So what is the difference between a classic (traditional) cruise and an adventure (expedition) cruise?

*Adventure cruises are geared towards active travelers who are looking for more than late night buffets and pool-side lounging.

*Adventure Cruises are about the destination, not the journey.

*Adventure Cruises have a camaraderie you can’t experience on a classic cruise. This is because the ships are smaller, so the setting is more intimate. And there is more interaction among the passengers due to the ship size and types of activities involved. There is an adventure vibe that is contagious, which creates an energy that can’t be found on a classic cruise.

*Adventure Cruises are ‘Live & Learn.’ You learn so much more while aboard an adventure cruise because there are special programs, lectures, events, and excursions not found on classic cruises. And you are ‘living’ large with activities, such as kayaking, scuba diving, wildlife watching safaris, jungle treks, and cultural excursions to remote villages.

*Adventure Cruises pose more physical challenges because they are more active and typically you get less rest because you are up and out early.

*Adventure Cruises offer less amenities. There aren’t big Broadway-style shows, spas, shops, and shipboard activities, such as movie theaters and miniature golf. But you also don’t have to fight for a deck chair or dinner seating or disembarkation.

*Adventure Cruises tend to cost more because of the activities (including specialized guides and instructors) and remote destinations. Smaller ships also mean less passengers, which means a higher per passenger cost.
