Why I Like It: If you have an interest in seeing Cuba but the trip costs have been out of reach…well, not anymore. Fun Facts About Cuba…

Havana was once a British territory. It was captured by the British in 1762, but it was less than one year before they traded it to the Spanish for some territory in what is now Florida.

One of the most beautiful buildings in Havana is the former Bacardi Building. The Bacardi family was forced to flee the city during the Cuban Revolution. They escaped with their rum recipe, but had to say goodbye to their beautiful building that includes a bell tower. Since everything was taken by the government after the revolution, the former Bacardi building now serves as government offices.

Cuba produces the best cigars in the world. In addition to loving their cigars and rum, Cubans are wild about baseball.

The world’s tiniest bird, Bee Hummingbird, calls Cuba home. It is only two inches in size!

Cuba is the 16th biggest island in the world.

Ernest Hemingway wrote some of his best-known books while living in Cuba.
