why you should cancel your mexico vacation

Why You Should Cancel Your Mexico Vacation

Why You Should Cancel Your Mexico Vacation…it is not safe to go right now. Many popular, all-inclusive resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen have come into question lately. Many Americans have suffered assaults, injuries, and even death after recent trips to this region of Mexico. Vacationers to some of Mexico’s top resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen claim they were drugged or served dangerous bootleg liquor that made them very sick or caused them to black out. Dozens of American and Canadian tourists have woken up with injuries or have been robbed. In other reports, tourists believe they were served toxic alcohol that resulted in hospitalization or death.
How bad are we talking?
The situation has gotten so bad that the U.S. State Department has issued official travel warnings for some regions of Mexico. Mexican authorities have responded by raiding more than three dozen upscale resorts to curtail the situation. The government recently sized more than 10,000 gallons of illicit alcohol and suspended operations in a few resorts due to unsanitary alcohol. This means they discovered water leakage, lack of disinfectant, and unlabeled alcohol. The Mexican government has warned resorts that inferior liquor and other crimes will not be tolerated. They promise to crack down on counterfeit alcohol and protect tourists at all costs. While they are saying and doing all the right things, until the Mexican government gets a handle on this crisis, I recommend avoiding these destinations altogether.
Will I be penalized for cancelling my pre-paid vacation?
Once a travel warning has been issued, you are entitled to a refund even if you don’t have travel insurance. But if you don’t want to cancel your vacation, please follow these tips:
*Don’t drink alone.
*Avoid shots.
*Drink from bottles or cans you open personally.
*Don’t leave drinks and/or food unattended.
*Keep your insurance information with you at all times.

Also, why you should cancel your Mexico vacation…There are warnings for other parts of Mexico (including Baja, California and Baja California Sur) that are popular tourist destinations, as well. More than 11,000 murders occurred in the first half of this year, putting 2017 on track to be the most violent since the Mexican Revolution. Additionally, there have been kidnappings, car jackings, robberies, and assaults. The warnings include many popular tourist destinations, including Mexico City, Copper Canyon, Cancun, Cozumel, Mazatlan, and Riviera Maya. Visit the U.S. State Department’s site to review the latest warnings, https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/country/mexico.html
