Theme Parks Raise Their Prices

Disney Raises Ticket Prices

Going to Walt Disney World in 2014 has just gotten more expensive, as the theme park operator has once again raised prices of admission to its theme parks, coming close to the $100 per ticket fee.

One-day, one-park tickets at Magic Kingdom will cost $99, while Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will cost $94 — an increase of $4 over 2013 rates. Park hopper fees have also increased: $35 for one-day, $49 for two- or three-days, and $60 for four- to 10-day passes.

Children 10 and older must pay adult admission for tickets, while children 3 through 9 pay $93 at Magic Kingdom and $88 at the other parks. Those 3 and younger are free.

At this time, Disneyland in California has not announced admission increases for its park, or California Adventure, which are currently $92 for a one-day pass for adults and $86 for children 3 to 9. One-day park hopper passes — especially useful in Anaheim as the two theme parks are across a pedestrian complex from each other — are $137 for adults, and $131 for children.

Universal Orlando Raising Ticket Prices

Less than a week after Walt Disney World announced it was raising ticket prices, Universal Orlando Resort announced it is raising ticket prices, as well. Single-park tickets will now start at $96, with children’s tickets increasing to $90. The increase, like Disney, reflects a $4 ticket increase. The increase also comes just before the theme park opens its highly anticipated Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, part of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter already operating at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. A Hogwarts Express train will connect the two, but visitors will need a two-park pass to visit both.To visit both parks, a one-day, two-park ticket jumped to $136 for adults, and $130 for children, an $8 increase. Two-day, single park tickets are now $155.99 and $145.99 for adults and children, respectively, with two-day, two-park tickets costing $195.99 and 185.88, respectively. These increases range from $10 to $29.Universal’s pricing remains lower than Disney, which offers its two-day Park Hopper pass for $237.
